New or old vari kennel design?

Hi all,
I've been reading all these reviews regarding the new vari kennel ultra. It's quite confusing. Some think its new design is fantastic, and others feel the lip inside the door is an invitation for your dog to chew. It's also lighter where the older ones are stronger, according to these reviews. Any insights or advise? Thanks so much! I'm so confused!

I like the old style and would rather find a used one in good condition than go with that newer one. I've been scanning CL for a 700 with no luck so far!

I did not know there was a new one ? Anyone have a link? I bought Bo the 700 series Giant last fall after he ripped his wired one apart and scraped his nose doing it and my wall. He really does not need to be crated anymore but I have 3 dogs and I leave my JRT terror lose in the house so just to keep them safe when I am not home.

I found a great video for the new one not long ago, but haven't been able to find it recently. It showed the new door handle. It is round not the traditional square squeeze handle that most of them have. I'll keep looking for it.

Do you all feel the 500 would be too small?

Here's a link to the news article I found.

I prefer the old design myself. But really isn't an option if buying a new crate, since the new dome shaped design is the only one available on the 500s and below. The 700s are still the old shape and design.

Probably not. 500 is a good size for most adult GSDs. And is a whole lot easier to move around than a 700. Can't even fit a 700 through a standard doorway without taking it apart.

Oh, thank you for your response. This is my first GSD in case you hadn't already figured that out from all my never-ending questions! I appreciate all the wisdom on this site!

LOL You should have seen me trying to drag my new 700 up my staircase. That thing is a monster!

Couple of years ago when I adopted a new femle from rescue I bought the new Sky kennel 500 with the new 4 point locking system. This is a great crate with tie down holes, grip areas on the sides etc. Very nice new design.

Training isn't expensive.... IT'S PRICELESS!
