Top 10 dog friendly US beaches

With the terrible weather some areas of the country have experienced this week, I figured people might enjoy planning their warm, summer vacations. Here's a list of the top 10 dog friendly beaches in America:

1. Fort DeSoto Beach, Florida
2. Dog Beach, California
3. St. George Island, Florida
4. Carmel City Beach, California
5. Cape San Blas, Florida
6. Hunting Island, South Carolina
7. Fort Funston State Park, California
8. Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint, Oregon *
9. Ft. Fisher State Recreation Area, North Carolina
10. Jekyll Island, Georgia

* "Pet Friendly Rentals" isn't mentioned for this beach.

Re: Top 10 dog friendly US beaches

I take my dogs to the beaches here...usually Padre Island National Seashore with no problems but they do require them to stay leashed. The other beaches like Mustang Island, etc are less regulaed so some off leash frolicing is ok, but I am always overly careful when there are others around, not to mention vehicles.

Re: Top 10 dog friendly US beaches

Close to Fort DeSoto is where we want to move when the boys graduate from high school and start their own adult lives.
There are some great older Florida homes in St. Pete (which is what I want), dog limit is four per household (quite doable and my goal as everyone slowly moves on to the bridge), great fishing for my hubby, and close to my brother in Largo.
Good health care at Bay Pines VA hospital for me and a lot of Tricare Prime doctors for the hubby.
Darrin can transfer within his company to either a shop in Clearwater or Tampa and MacDill isn't too far away for our commissary/support needs. It's a win, win!
