zeus on animal planet

Hey did anybody see the episode on Animal cops-Philly with Zeus the shepherd with the imbedded choker chain? What a touching story. That show is usually good especially when the animals find caring homes but this one was really good

Re: zeus on animal planet

yep I saw it, they played that one a few weeks ago too. I'm glad they could save him, he also had part of a collar twisted in his intestines.

I don't remember what animal cops show it was but did you see the one where they found an abandoned GSD senior? poor boy was only 26lbs. They did not put him up for adoption and instead let him retire at the rescue where he is always with someone...makes me cry everytime I see it.

Re: zeus on animal planet

I'm not sure if I've seen that one, how old is it?

I do remember one I saw a long time ago with a German Shepherd who was covered in hundreds of ticks. The tick infestation was so bad the dog needed a blood transfusion. It wasn't even a stray or something, the dog was living in someone's yard/basement in NYC!

No I didn't see that one! When they did the operation on Zeus's intestines and he was just laying there I was trying to hold it together. Baron was looking at me then looking at the tv then looking at me. He obviously knew I was upset. Then seeing the guy that took him in, made me feel good knowing how much he cared for him. What a shame that a little while before he was so abused.

Re: zeus on animal planet

Oh man ticks??? I can't even imagine how these people can treat their animals that way. This person said they didn't know the collar was imbedded in his neck?!?!?!?! The aspca person said they could smell it when the dog came in the door! It was so imbedded the skin grew over the chain! I tell you it makes you want to just punch somebody like that in the face, "oh I'm sorry I didn't realize it would hurt you. oh my appoligies I didn't realize my foot on your neck would hurt either"

I saw the tick one too. It was a female GSD and very sweet. It made me sick.

Re: zeus on animal planet

The tick episode is the worst I have EVER seen. You could look at that GSD and see the ticks, you did not have to even look close. It was HORRIBLE. That episode made a huge impact on me, COME ON, u cannot reach down and get those off!! The dog was living on a slab of concrete in the back of an apartment!

I missed the embedded collar in Philly. But did you see the Pit bulls on 60 lb chains!!! They made them carry them around to strenthen their necks, 7 of 8 had to be pts. to dog aggressive. It was horrid!

Animal Cops gives me fuel...makes me wanna go save!!

Re: zeus on animal planet

I've seen several shows where the embedded collars were so bad the skin had grown over it. The worse embedded collars I've seen on the Animal Cops shows are the chains when the skin has grown THROUGH the chain links.
Seriously how can you not notice that?!?

It was so great to see that vet loving him up and giving him
a cookie, and his new owner saying he was like the son he'd
never had!!

Re: zeus on animal planet

Not a GSD, but there are two Animal cops (one Phoenix and the other Detroit) cases that stick with me. One was the cat what jumped over the fence and landed in a cactus garden, when they got there it was completely covered with hundreds of needles and the sounds it made....I cried instantly.
The other was a black puppy left in the snow, it was emaciated and when they got they they thought it was dead, but then heard it breathing. It survived.
