Tripper has been SAVED!!

We are fosters for the Phila. SPCA. Last week we went up there to pull another foster dog. As I was passing the kennels, there was a sable trying to hide in the corner. He was horribly thin, scared and coughing. Owner moved away and left the poor baby in the yard with no food or water. I sat in front of his kennel for a few minutes and looked into those beautiful amber eyes. He slowly wagged his tail, and started leaning against the gate. We took him home. He's doing well, getting meds for his pneumonia, eating and keeping it down. He's so sweet...more docile than Samm, our LH GSD. Now, do we keep fostering OR do we make him a member of our pack? Yes, it will bring us to four dogs but he seems so happy and we all love him....even the cats.

Sam - 7yr L/H GSD
Prue - 9yr mixed breed
Zippy - rat terrier 5 yrs
Diesel - GSD 2yrs
Hop-Sing 5yr lilac pt siamese
Phoebe - meezer and dog tormentor 9yrs

Re: Tripper has been SAVED!!

I'd plan on fostering him for at least a couple months & then assess: pneumonia has a long recovery period & you won't know his complete personality until he's really feeling 100% well & confident.

Some thoughts ...
- does keeping him mean that you won't be able to foster anymore? if, yes, how will you feel about this in a year or 2?

- if he's truly 'easy' it will likely be easy to find a great home for him
