The amazing intelligence of crows

The amazing intelligence of crows Video

The clip, where the crow drops the nut into the traffic for cars to run over and open it and waits for the green light to eat it safely is the best! Some people prob. couldn't comprehend such a task

Re: The amazing intelligence of crows

Wow!! They are pretty amazing, I've had first hand experience just
here in my neighborhood. They have learned to follow garbage
trucks around the neighborhood, it's pretty cute. I don't think
they get that much but it must be worth it to them

The other thing I have to watch out for is when I do poop
patrol on my morning walks. I use a baggie to pick up, then
I put it in a small brown lunch bag. A lot of my walk is where
there aren't any garbage containers, and since I do a loop, I just
leave the bag on the side of the path and get it on my way back.
Well, crow moms over time have taught the kids that little
brown bags like that often have food scraps, because the crows
around here can rip right through the bag in nothing flat. I've
started just carrying the bag the whole way so they don't learn
that there is nothing but poop in them.

And if there is ever a fast food bag, watch their little eyes
light up!!

Thanks for the link, that was interesting!

Valerie

I love ted.com, what a great website. Thanks for this link - I hadn't seen it. It's just fascinating, isn't it? We live on acreage and have crows who think of this place as home, built a big nest this year. I get a kick out of watching them give hawks the business - the whole crow family gets in on chasing any hawk that comes near, yelling and screaming and raising ****! :-)

Re: The amazing intelligence of crows

We used to have a crow (or was it a raven ) hang around our house for a while. It would land on our head, steal our cameras & watches, and take my grandmother's clothes pins off the line as soon as she could hang stuff up.

It was there for weeks - then just didn't come back.

Now we just have a murder of them that hang in back of our house. max hates them. So does the falcon that sometimes swoops through!

Re: The amazing intelligence of crows

The local elementary school and middle school must have the kids bring in all thier backpacks and belongings during recess or presentations. The crows have figured out how to UNZIP the back packs, pull out the lunch bags - even the cooler bags with zippers- and open them up to pull out the goodies! I know this because I've seen it! They have small frito, pbj, and pringle party! At that point I can't be mad at them- they worked hard to get those goodies. The school sent us notes home, but I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it.
