Pet's Ten Commandments

Wasn't sure where to put this, I got it in my in-box today and wanted to share.

PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

~Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them.

Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters

Re: Pet's Ten Commandments

#10 brings back some really bad memories. The one that I did stay in the room for the doctor told me she would just go to sleep and after he gave her the juice she started convolsing. I ran out of the office it was the worst day of my life. Has anybody else been there at the end? The next two I said my goodbyes and then went outside and had a explosion of bad emotions. I'm tearing up at the thought that some day I may have to go through this with Baron.

Re: Pet's Ten Commandments

I have been there in the end for all my dogs. My first dog died in my arms in my house and convulsed it was terrible, my second one was PTS at 18y and in stead of going quietly he did the twitching, last breath - I believe he never wanted to leave but his poor body couldn't go anymore, my 3rd one was recent (Nov 08) she was PTS because of a cancer she passed away in my arms as my husband looked into her eyes I never knew she went it was so peaceful. Each one of my experiences was different, I respect those that can't do #10 everyone is different, I know I personally have to be there that is me but some people can't. I don't put my personal feelings about the situation on anyone because just making the decision is agonizing enough. Hugs to you.

Re: Pet's Ten Commandments

Thanks guys I think the next time I will try to be strong and be there for my friend. I thought about it all last night and the more I think about it the more I look at #10 and I think how I would want somebody there. I should be there for him.

Re: Pet's Ten Commandments

My dog, and my cat, both went very, very peacefully in my arms at the vet's. No convulsing, no struggling, no gasping-- just peaceful sleepy, comfortable, easing down into my arms.. and then relaxing until they were quietly gone. Peace.
