Horse DNA In Evanger's Hunk Of Beef Canned Food

Evanger?s admits to finding horse DNA in its Hunk of Beef pet food in a letter sent to customers Tuesday. The company also has plans to recall all of its Hunk of Beef, Braised Beef Chunks with Gravy and Against the Grain Beef pet foods. A formal recall announcement will be issued later this week. why am I not surprised. Honestly I would be shocked if the meats in most of these dog foods actually WERE what they said.

All the euthanized companion horses wind up in Evangers, the new Alpo.

Holy cow. They are really going to have to get serious about monitoring their suppliers to get consumer confidence back.

I apologize for being too lazy to read the article. So - Is the horse meat the cause of the pentobarbital contamination in the dog food? And if so, these horses were euthanized, rather than going through slaughter. Meaning, they were pets that owners had PTS and they ended up in dog food? That is disgusting on so many levels.

YES!

And because the horses were euthanized, the pentobarbital killed one dog and made the others sick!

The book "Food Our Pets Die For" By Ann Martin told the story many years ago, and also years ago, I remember seeing an investigative piece on renders. They said some of the dogs and cats from shelters go to fertilizer and the some to pet food!
That's when I began making my own raw meals for my dogs!
