Baton Rouge, LA-48999-Sable Male (adopted)

S-O-S. There's a dark sable GSD in the Companion Animal Alliance (the public shelter attached to animal control -- http://www.caabr.org/) in Baton Rouge, LA. His impound is 48999.

He appears to be already neutered and has received one set of vaccinations. He is heartworm positive. He's also filthy, and his coat feels like he's been living outside a long time. He's very underweight and needs to get into a foster home ASAP. His impound period expires today 9/9/14 at noon. He's only got a few days for us to find a solution for him. (Note that commercial transports that serve this area will NOT transport a HW+ dog.)

Our local breed rescue already full, and stretched beyond capacity. New Orleans GSR is also stretched to its limit. We've all been inundated with GSDs in shelters recently in South Louisiana. We need help from out-of-state rescues at this point, as he's only got at most a couple of days (until the weekend, if we're lucky). PLEASE share this guy!

He needs a breed-experienced foster who appreciates working line temperaments. He's a lot of dog. He's very strong, and will likely require strong leadership (meaning he's not the type of dog to wilt at a correction). He seems clear-headed and confident. He is aloof with strangers, in an "all business" Shepherd way. He'll cheerfully allow a stranger to pet him and feed him treats, but he seems like the sort of dog who reserves his real affection for his special person. Introduced to another dog on leash, he showed playful dominance--trying to put paws on shoulders and hips to get the other dog to wrestle. When the other dog growled and told him to buzz off, he just tried harder to get it to rough-house with him. He never offered any submissive behavior to the other dog; nor did he react negatively when the other dog fussed at him. He has no leash manners yet, but he's full of energy.

My best guess on age is 5-7 y.o., with lots of pep still in him.

Offers to pull from qualified 501(c)(3) rescues can be communicated directly to CAA's rescue coordinator - 225-774-7701 (or PM me and I'll give you her email address).

Yes, he needs some groceries, as we say down here. It looks like he's got tiger stripes the way his ribs show. Here's a link to another image that shows how skinny he is:

(and to his FB post, in case that's easier to share)
