california natural puppy food

so I'm making the switch from Nutro Natural LB puppy food to the California natural, he's been itchy and I want to see if it is allergy related, the new food is basically 2 ingrediences, lamb and rice. Has anyone used it??

Re: california natural puppy food

No. Both brands are lower protein, higher carb than I'm feeding. IF it's allergies foods with very few ingredients seem to be the way to go.

Has he been tested for allergies? Does your vet think it's allergies? IF it's allergies, are you certain they're food based rather than environmental?

Re: california natural puppy food

no testing has been done, i'm trying to rule out the food first.....
could be enviromental, one thing at a time....
i also am looking at the older GSD's slobber all over him that could be drying out the skin, they are always playing and mouthing each other

Re: california natural puppy food

In my opinion, the California Natural is a much better food than the Nutro.

How old is your puppy? How long has he been on the Nutro? Is it what the breeder fed?

Re: california natural puppy food

originally he was on iams smart puppy large breed, i switched him to the nutro because we used it for our other dog when she was a puppy and had good results. puppy is almost 10 weeks, so he was only on the nutro for about 8 days and i was still combining it with the iams...now i'm doing iams/california and will be increasing the california each day until that is the only food he is on....so we'll see. he didn't seem to eat the iams as well as he does the other foods
