Loss of appetite?

Jager is 5 months old. He's been on Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy food since the breeder's. In the last couple of weeks, he's been slow to eat his food... sometimes leaving quite a bit behind. When we first brought him home (9 weeks) he of course gobbled it too quickly. Eventually, he learned that he no longer had competition and slowed down, still eating everything in one sitting though.

Now sometimes he doesn't even take one bite and turns his nose up to it. But will later go back to his food and eat some here and there. Most times he will finally eat all of it after several trips. He gets fed twice a day, morning and evening. It concerns me especially when he won't even touch his food at first offer in the mornings, that's when he used to eat with the most enthusiasm.

Any thoughts?

Re: Loss of appetite?

I should probably mention his portions... he gets 2 cups each feeding... maybe that's too much? I was going by the food's suggestion and even decreased it.

Re: Loss of appetite?

Change his food
You can put him on adult food.
Brady was 5-6 months when I did not to mention he was eating Missy food anyway.

I am sure you'll get alot of advice on this from what I hear there is so much better food out there. I have Brady on Natural Balance Ultra and he loves it

Re: Loss of appetite?

Both the breeder and our vet said this is high quality food and to keep him on the puppy version until he's a year old. Not arguing here Just letting you know the advice I've been given.

Re: Loss of appetite?

The breeder and vet are mis-informed. Euk is NOT a "high qualtiy" food. It is better than some kibbles out there, but there are a LOT of others that are WAY more "high quality" than Eukanuba. (Or any other kibble that can be fond at the local grocery store.)

It is also NOT necessary to feed puppy food. There are plenty of folks that NEVER feed puppy food.
