Sanity Found with Solid Gold Wolf Cub
My puppy Louie hasn't been a big eater since we got him a few weeks ago. When we got him we stuck with the breeders food which was Royal Canine Large Breed. He was eating but I noticed he didn't eat nearly as much as suggested. He had to be crated, or else the slightest distraction would send him running from the food. On top of that, it seemed like he had to do business before and after each meal.
After some research I got him some Wellness Super5Mix Large Breed. Ended up being a complete waste of money. I'm sure I could have starved him and he would eventually have eaten it but I figured whats the point getting him started on something he hates anyway.
Well the money wasting didn't stop there. I did some more research and got him some Innova Large Breed and swore that was going to be the end. He was going to be an Innova dog. Sure enough, even starting him off slowly on it, mixing with his old food, the bathroom breaks became way too frequent and he didn't really seem to like it.
So I decided I was just a mental head case and I should have never jacked with the food in the first place. That lasted for about 3 days until I was convinced that there had to be a food that Louie would actually eat and he would do better on. So I found a website that would send samples of about 10 different foods. Got every high-end brand out there and my fiancee aided me in setting up the dog food line-up.
The original winner was Pinnacle Puppy/ Adult Potato and Duck but after a few pieces he moved the the Solid Gold and scarfed it all down. Gave him his first full bowl yesterday and I've never seen him actually want to eat. I think he chocked a little because he was eating so fast. He finished and came smiling out of his crate, no need to close the door anymore. And most importantly, business time is much much smaller and happens half as many times.
Now I know this stuff isn't the answer for everyone but let me just say it has my thumbs up for now.
