Pro-Plan Chic.&Rice DOG for a puppy?

I just spoke to my breeder and she said she typically uses Pro-Plan Chick. & Rice for Dogs for both puppies AND dogs. She said that it has a good amount of fat and protein in it as well as the other nutrients needed.

My parents said that for their Toy Yorkie they use the exact SAME food.

I'm curious if this is good stuff and if it's ok to give a puppy GSD DOG food instead of puppy?

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Pro-Plan Chic.&Rice DOG for a puppy?

I generally switch puppies over to dog food at 4-6 months of age. I want to provide proper nutrition for them, while not over-loading their system and causing them to grow too quickly. We didn't switch one of ours as a puppy, continuing to feed him a puppy food, and he developed Pano. Glucosamine and Chondroitin cleared it up, but it was worrisome to see him limping.

Also, remember to keep them lean, even as puppies, so that you don't stress their developing bodies.

Best Wishes!

This is a pretty personal choice and everyone will have slightly differing opinions. I don't care for feeding a puppy under 6 months a food that is AAFCO approved for adults only (which is what Pro-Plan is). What I do like is a food that is approved for all life stages - Canidae, for instance.
