Seiran weight issues?

Probably being a worried owner for nothing, but we’ve hit a dead end on weight gain. She hasn’t gained a single pound since her muzzle came off. She’s 4.5 months, and weighs 28lbs. She gotten taller, longer, and leaner. She’s fed a cup of puppy large breed in the morning, a cup at lunch time, and half a cup at dinner time per Fromm’s suggested feed amounts.

Her parents are on the smaller side, with the dam being 50lbs. I’m happy for a smaller girl, but she just looks so thin! She has a pretty drastic tuck, and you can easily feel all ribs. None are visible, but she has a thick wavy coat. Her brother is already at 40lbs. They are the same height.

Just tell me I’m being a worry wart over nothing. I know pups all gain at their own rate, but never seeing the scale go up makes my worry go up. She eats all food given to her, but seems satisfied with the amount. Coat is glossy.

She’s set for another round of shots in two weeks, and follow up for her jaw. Should I just bring her in for a weight check, or ride it out for the next two weeks?

Kurama was about that weight at 4.5 months but appeared more stocky, I still went and got it checked though and she finally hit 30 at 5 months. i’d get her in the vet as she may have an issue with absorbing nutrients if she’s not gaining any weight and becoming skinny.. I’d be worried. Pups go thru lengthy awkward stages but that could be a little excessive. Mind posting a pic of her to see?

I am not sure what Fromm's calorie count is but I would say that isn't enough food. My pups both eat 4 cups of dry food a day, 2 cups in the am and 2 in the pm. We also split a can of wet food between the 2 of them to go with there dry food at dinner time (because my husband spoils them). Neither one of them are overweight, our female has always been larger but she is shorter and broader. Our male is tall, long and lean. We feed the Costco adult kibble... I know its not the best but its better then a lot.

Does the Fromm feeding guidelines say to double the amount shown for puppies? We are not feeding puppy food so we do feed more then what is shown because they are still growing. Once they hit 1 year if there weight shows its no longer needed, we will taper down.

I wanted to add both our puppies are very active, both with each other and with us. So the extra food is needed but I know Seiran was not able to be active for a while. If she is all healed now and back to a normal activity level I would say up the food a little.

Can you see the ribs when she’s wet? Maybe up the food a 1/4 cup and see if she eats it all. About my human kids I use to say they only grow one way at a time (height then weight or vise versa) it seemed to apply to my boy as a pup also.

You can not compare a female to a male for weight. Males are supposed to weight more.

You took the muzzle off. She's allowed more exercise, but you are feeding her the same amount. Why would you not just increase her food if she looks to thin?

She’s hard to catch for pics. I’ll add the ones I managed to get, and have DH help me when he gets home so I have an above view of her.

We are feeding based on what her adult weight should be, which we know she’ll be on the smaller size, but are feeding based on a mature weight of 70lbs.

Jax, she wasn’t getting the same amount muzzled. She got about a cup and 1/2 when she has her muzzle on, she just got a larger portion per meal because it was diluted with water, and blended.

When we offer more, she leaves it in the bowl. But if she hears my female eating, she rushed over and stands behind her, and if there is anything left in her bowl, she will eat the crap out of it, and my female will go and eat the puppy food. They are both fed Fromm large breed, one in puppy formula, one in adult formula. We’ve even tried using the big dogs bowl with puppy food in it, but she’s knows the difference and won’t eat it.

Here is her eating, and what she left in the bowl uneaten. I increased it to a cup and a half.
