have you change his diet? if you did then yes it's the food if not then
He probably got into something that his stomach didnít agreed with it , keep and eye on him/her and try to feed him Rice & boil Chicken , Even better add some pumpking with the boil chicken. You can also add some slippery bark elm you can get it from any vitamin shop store . if you still have the problem for more than 2 days please take your baby to the vet

Forgot to add make sure the pumpking is 100% and nothing else (no sugar or any other ingredient)

A few other details will help. It could be a lots of things before you should start doing suggestions.

How old is the pup?

How long have you had the pup?

Is this new food or what the breeder gave the pup?

Has the pup been checked for worms, or Giardia, etc?

What are you feeding and how much based on weight and age?

How many times a day are you feeding?

yes good idea to rule out everything from the list below.. I was leaning more to a temporary solutions knowing that you are describing a puppy and you need to make sure she keeps eating , pup can't go with out eating for more than 8 hours , please make sure he/she is also drinking water they can get dehydrated when they are having runny stool

I will recommend a blend diet " Rice boild chicken " for 2 days and see if the stools get any better..
My Girl stomach is very sensitive she is 6 month and she still on GI food , I can count with my hands the time she have solid stools. You can also try some enzymes and Probiotics . you also need to rule out any worms, or Giardia like KR16 was Mentioning before

When you switch foods without gradually doing it, it can cause runny stools.

You really should have the pup to a vet and have it checked for worms and other things.

Also may be the food your giving it also depends on the brand and quality. 4 1/2 cups may be much, not sure, again depends on the brand of food. Mine gets 3 cups a day and he is 4 months.
