New Puppy isnt eating much

I picked up my Memphis yesterday and brought him home, i made him his dinner which was the exact same thing the breeder has been preparing for him however he didn't eat much. I thought ya sure hes probably just anxious about his new place. He did very well through out the night. This morning we woke up, im thinking he has got to be hungry. I made him breakfast and he ate just a little out of it.

Is this normal or is this something I need to adjust some how?

He could be adjusting, just watch him closely and offer a few times a day. Also watch his water intake as it is hot out there and you don't want him to be dehydrated.

I am sure he will be fine.

What she said..I assume he's been checked for worms, etc. Welcome to the world of gsds, you'll soon become an expert on food and poop- not necessarily in that order!

Yes, take him to the vet to be checked for parasites....if he is ok, then just give him a few day to get adjusted to his new home.

my pup did the same thing when we got him, and i had the same thoughts as you, TexasGS. but then came vomiting and diarrhea. he had coccidia. the vet gave us a few different pills and had us get some pepto bismol and pepcid AC. that plus a bland diet(boiled chicken/white rice) for a few days. since that hes been fine. keep an eye out for signs of vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration.

Mia had cocidia and didn't want to eat. I always take my new pups to the vet the very next day after we get them (and I know to bring a poop sample). With in hours of the meds, Mia was eating fine. It can be nerves too.

I think a trip to the vet within the first few days is essential- so many things could be happening in that little body, worms, parasites, bacteria. Best to get him checked out before the weekend. Pups can go downhill fast

Ya ive got my puppy checkup scheduled for tomorrow! I hope everything is ok. I just smashed all of his food and put in pieces on ham in it and he just licks up the warm water I put in his food. This makes me feel like im a bad dad! ahhhh

Your not a bad daddy pups pick up all kinds of yucky stuff. Be prepared to bring some fresh poo with you tomorrow the vet will figure out the rest.

Be careful with the ham, they don't handle pork very well.
