Question Cal/Phos levels-HELP

I am temporarily feeding my GSD puppy Whole Earth Farms Puppy food made by Merrick, and he is doing AMAZING on it. His coat is as soft as bunny fur and has improved dramatically, his energy is great, his eyes are bright, etc. and for the price I can't really ask for more. I was using it as a "temporary" food, he was on Chicken Soup and his coat wasnt that great, so I am trying to use up the Whole Earth Farms bag in the mean time before I find another food.

I was a little concerned because the Cal/Phos levels were not on the bag. So I called Merrick and they said that for the puppy food, the level of Calcium is .60 and Phospohrus is .39. Is this too low? It seems low comapred to alot of other foods-I've never seen anything so low actually. I just want to know if it's appropriate for a GSD and if I should keep him on this food since he is doing so well...any opinion is greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

The ratio is 2:1. Do a google search for 'minimum daily requirements" and "cal/phos ratio"

The ratio is just as important as the amount itself!

So then the ratio in this food would be pretty close to the 2:1 then, right? The amounts themselves just seemed seemed low. Thanks for the feedback!

I don't know what the ratio should be for a puppy. I know what they need to be for a cat but that does you NO good at all.

Do a google search and see what sources you come up with. It's just that the ratio is just as important as the amount because the phosphorus binds to the calcium...or something like that.

i know ive seen studies (maybe the one on danes) that concludes around .8-1% Ca is the minimum requirement for large breed pups. the ratio is important, but so is the absolute level of Ca.
