Feeding a GSD/Mix

I've recently adopted a GSD/Mix that is now 5 months old. Originally when Sammy was adopted they labeled him as a border collie/mix, so I had a DNA test performed and he is actually a GSD/English Cockerspanial Chow Chow mix. My question is when we first adopted him we were recommended Nutro large breed controlled growth for puppies. He is currently 25lbs at 5 months with an estimated weight of 45 to 70 lbs.

Should I keep him on a large breed controlled growth food? His physique is almost entirely of a GSD and I want to reduce the risk of hip problems in the future.

Love to see pictures of your pup, no matter what the mix!

There are a bunch of stickies in the puppy section Development & Socialization - German Shepherd Dog Forums cause we all obsess about our dogs height/growth.

I personally just feed my puppies ADULT food from when I get them, a good balanced higher grade kibble. So no puppy food for us. And my darn puppies grow to be the top of their height/weight but healthy!

it certainly cant hurt to make sure he grows at a slow steady pace, no matter what breed he is. the foods labeled large breed puppy will accomplish that, but as MRL stated, many adult foods will accomplish the same thing as long as the maximum Ca isnt too high (such as it is in most grainless foods). the main things id stay away from for our pups are most of the grainless foods and foods just labeled "puppy."
