Ear's and food ?

Hello, Thor is now 6 1/2 months old. I changed his food from Lamb and rice to a meat blend. His ears got all red and was itching. I called the breeder and she suggested putting him back on the lamb and rice. Her GSD's eat only lamb and rice. OK,,,, I put him back on and the ears cleared up. Could he have some allergies to anything other then lamb and rice??
I am keeping him on the L&R , I also give him and his sister Daisy Mae (Black Lab ) fish oil for the coats and their skin.

I only have a pet supplies plus near me and I really do not like that store. but If I have to I will shop there!
Any recommendations?
Thor goes about 65 lbs, is very active running and exercising

Red ears! and normal ears! the breeder suggested I put him on Zymox and I did, it helped plus switching food back to the L & R .

yeah, sounds like an allergy to me. I know even w/ ppl, red ears can be a sign of allergies or interferences.

What brand of food are you using and what did you switch too? Was it the same brand but different flavor?

My last dog got nearly constant ear infections until I switched her to better quality food, and kept her off of foods which contained wheat, soy, or corn. After I did that her ears were always great. I don't think it was an actual allergy as she would sometimes get treats with one of those ingredients in them (such as when I made treats or if a friend gave her some) and she never had a "relapse".
