Where Can I Find a Dog Show

Hi everyone,

I hope I am not duplicating a thread, if I am, I would appreciate a link. I have an 8 month old GSD girl and I would love to show her in SoCal or somewhere reasonably close. She does not have skills like Schutz or agility yet but the breeder said I can show her anyway. I have been googling and looking online but to no avail. Where should I look?

Are you looking at obedience or conformation? I would look for a local obedience club or kennel club first. They can help you, teach you how to train or show before you enter a show. You'll want to understand what you have to do and how it works.

I spoke to the breeder and she told me there is a part of the show where I can just have her run and show her teeth, no obedience needed.

do you want SV? or AKC?

First, you need a trainer to teach the dog to gait and stack.

Does your breeder show her dogs? There is more to it than that. I would look for a kennel club near you that has conformation classes and go to them. You'll have fun with your dog and learn what you need to know. Plus there is more to being show quality than just being purebred. Go to classes, have fun and listen to what they tell you.

That's exactly what I needed, the conformation classes. I am looking for a trainer in my area right now. Thanks so much for your help!

If you're interested in watching AKC events (including conformation), this is a neat little tool that lists events by date/type/location.

https://www.apps.akc.org/apps/events/search/

The club hosting the event(s) is typically listed, with website and phone number. Might be a good way to find some clubs to visit and folks to start talking to.

That's an awesome idea. I might go see one with her and directly ask the people there what the best way is. Thanks so much for your fast help, you guys!
