Diet Advice for EPI dog?

Hi there! I just adopted a 1 year old female GSD (Angua) with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency from a local kill shelter. Apparently her previous family cared enough to get her diagnosed but couldn't afford the maintenance, and the shelter wasn't giving her the enzymes even though they knew she needed them so she was starving in there! I have her on Victor grain-free salmon with the enzyme added to it and a fish oil supplement. After just five days she's already more active and starting to get meat on her bones (I'm giving her 7-8 cups a day over three feedings at the moment, until she gets to a health weight) and the diarrhea is gone!

Now that I have her stable I want to think longer term about the best diet and supplement regimen for her and I'd love to get perspectives from people who have experience with EPI dogs. Any advice on managing her diet/special needs would be appreciated! She's a sweet girl who doesn't seem to have any other serious health issues!

Thank you for rescuing her!

I suggest joining "epi4dogs", they are very helpful and there is a ton of info on their site. All the info over there helped me tremendously when Nikki was diagnosed.

Hello my girl has EPI. I suggest using a calendar to write down her daily meals and the amount of enzymes you give her to find out what works for her. Every Epi dog is different. As for the food to give her, stick with a single protein with fiber under 4%. Also I suggest getting a TLI test done so you can see if she requires b12 shots. I give my girl a b12 shot once a month. For the best price on enzymes go to For great information about EPI go to EPI4DOGS. If you have any other questions feel free to message me. Good luck! She will be just fine😉
