Quality Wet Food

My 10 year old GSD had 17 teeth pulled today and I am concerned about his ability to eat dry dog food from this point on. My thought was to switch to a wet food to make it easier for him to chew. I found several websites that offered advice on food, but find it hard to take anyone serious that includes Purina in their quality dog food list. Java has food allergies and is on medication to control various allergies to unspecified things. The only food that we have found that he didn't have any reaction to was Merrick Buffalo and Sweet Potato. Are my concerns about his ability to eat dry dog food unfounded? If not, can anyone recommend a good alternative?

Thanks in advance
Rich and Java

How about feeding him a dehydrated food that reconstitutes with water? The Honest Kitchen has a beef-based food that ought to be okay if the buffalo works -- it's more economical than cans because you aren't paying for water (you add it), and it's not processed with high heat. Here it is:

You can add extra beef (cooked or raw) too!

They also make a limited-ingredient beef-based food:

As well as a base mix (no meat) to which you add the protein of your choice (e.g., buffalo), cooked or raw -- this is what I feed my own allergy dog:

Check the K-cals on the cans you are considering. You may find you need to feed upward of 3-4 cans a serving to keep the K-Cals up depending on your dogs needs. We went with Honest kitchen which was closer in this regard and less costly as well, not to mention a top notch product and an easy transition.
