My husband brought home some home made venison jerky that a co worker made. My dog went NUTS when he smelled it. I don't think I have ever seen him so excited for food. I didn't give him any, partly because he was rude and partly because I don't know what's in it.

Is there any jerky that is safe for dogs to eat? I sure could use something to train with that he was that excited about...

You can make that just slice up beef or chicken thinly and dry it.

I'm sure he can eat some but I would go easy on it with the spices and most likely liquid smoke

BJs store sells a chicken jerky that I give my dogs for treats. It is mostly chicken and my dogs like them. For training treats I prefer something softer. for make your own

I used to slice up beef heart and use a dehydrator. Liver didn't work and made a mess of the trays. I tried to do liver in the oven on parchment paper on low heat but that was a fail.

If you don't want to make your own or want something on hand in case you run out of homemade items, the following are human grade ingredient products:

A place I buy grassfed buffalo from sometimes has dog jerky made out of buffalo heart I think. Maybe I will order that and see what he thinks. It was probably partly all the spices he was so excited about, though. Which is mostly crap he shouldn't have.
