Question Rescue puppy size

My family recently adopted a rescued german shepherd. He is a 10 m/o male but he is about 40 pounds and is quite skinny. The vet believes that he is full shepherd, but looking at typical german shepherd development, I am concerned about his size. Is this an unhealthy weight for a german shepherd of his age?

We wouldn't be able to answer this without seeing photos of the dog. The weight is not the issue, its the overall appearance of the dog and how the dog energy level speaks more to the dogs health.

If you think dogs can’t count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then give him only two of them.

It seems very thin unless he is very small or a mix. Please put a picture.

And...we're forgetting new members can't post photos until they have, I think, 3 posts!

How tall is he at the withers?

And where would he fit on this weight chart?
