Is this GSD puppy mixed?

This GSD puppy is part of a litter of 11. I think he is around 8 weeks old. The mom and dad are both GSD (the dad is black and tan), but this puppy does not look like the pictures I have seen of GSD puppies. He is all black with a small white spot on his chest. Could you give me your opinion please?

It's not uncommon for a GSD to have a white spot. It's hard to tell at this age but if the parents look purebred then I don't see any reason to think the puppy isn't. He does looks small for 8 weeks to me.

Thank you for your response. Well I am not sure the exact age so it might not be 8 weeks. I showed the picture to a few people who have had GSDs and they said a black and tan GSD should not be all black as a puppy so it has to be mixed. Is that true?

black is recessive. I don't know what colors a black/tan will throw. But I imagine if both parents carry the recessive that it could happen. You might have to start a new thread on colors and genetics to get an accurate answer.

Two black and tan parents can have a black puppy

Thank you for the info. If this puppy were to change colors and began looking more like its parents, at what age would that be expected?

This puppy will always be black. The white spot may recede as he ages. Puppies don't change colors. The color and pattern are set by genetics. The black on a black and tan will recede to form either a saddle back or a blanket back pattern. A black is a black. Sables go thru several changes in darkness of colors as they grow but they are still a sable.

Who are the parents? Do you have a pedigree? If so, you can easily look at the colors in the lines and determine where the black came from.
