Underweight Young German Shepherd

Hi all,

I am new to the forums but I just joined because I'm a little worried about my white GSD, Eva. Just got a checkup yesterday; she's seven and a half months old and only 44 lbs. In the last two months she's grown very little after shooting up initially. The vet tells me she's consistently a little underweight, and may have some digestive problems but nothing to be too worried about. However, I get worried when I look around and see all of the "general size charts" that say she should be much bigger at this point. Her mother was huge, around 90lbs, so I expected her to be on the large side as well but obviously she isn't!

Eva looks skinny but not emaciated. She has lots of energy, and is amazingly smart and a great problem solver. She self-feeds, and we recently moved her food from Science Diet to Taste of the Wild in an attempt to fill her out more.

So, should I be worried or is this ok? Is Eva just going to be on the small side?

Post some pics? Also, good job on changing her food; science diet is just awful.

I'm on my work computer right now but I'll try to upload some pics when I get home tonight. I used Science Diet since that's what the breeder reccommended, but after reading some reviews I decided to give something with more protein a try.
