Spirit's physical development

When I first picked up Spirit at 13 weeks, I took him into my vet immediately for a checkup. He weighed 31lbs, the vet said he looked undernourished. I changed his food to Purina Pro Plan for large breed puppies. At his 2-week checkup, he had gained 15lbs ... so at 15 weeks Spirit weighs 46lbs. He is NOT fat, anywhere ... he looks great.

How is he measuring up with the averages here as far as growth? He seems quite large compared to some of the posts I'm reading.

Anyone here have a mature male that was similar to Spirit now? Is his weight now an indication of how large he will be at maturity? When do they stop growing? What am I looking at ultimately with respect to his size at maturity?

Do you know how large the parents were?

I don't have the numbers, but here are the parents ... mom and dad in that order. Hard to tell, I know, but maybe a little useful?

Do you have a current picture of your pup?

Most likely he will grow to be around his sire's size. Looks like both parents were AKC show dogs so I'm assuming they're within standard so you can probably expect that your pup will grow to be within standard (less than 88lbs and 24-26" height).

Of course there are cases when the pup grows to be much larger than the parents, but I wouldn't assume that since he had a growth spurt that he'll get enormous. There's a board member that has a 31" height male out of normally sized parents. Just make sure to control his calorie intake so his growth is steady

Depending on the lines, a male could potentially continue developing till 3-4. I would guess he stops getting taller at a year or so old. He will probably continue filling out till age 2ish.

That's important, and how exactly do I do that? I feed him 3x/day and he gets about 2 cups each feeding. Lately, he's been not eating quite as much, I pick up the food dish if he seems disinterested. I would say on average he's getting 5 cups/day + treats when he earns them

6C/day is quite a bit. Which food are you feeding?

Tazor was 30lbs at 10.5 wks and 40 lbs at 13.5 wks. He has never been fat either. At 8 months he weighed 88lbs and was 28".

He is 9 months now and is 29"..looks a little leggy, lanky, so I imagind at best his weight is in the low 90's but I havent taken him for a weight yet. I didn't get to see his parents as a breeder dropped him off for euthanasia at 8 wks.

No! Omg, why ???

6 cups/day sounds ludicrous to me. My golden can only have 2 cups/day and that's weight management ProPlan. For Spirit, I'm feeding Purina ProPlan for large breed puppies. This is what my vet recommended, and the 6 cups also. At first he was eating everything I gave him and really scarfing, but he's calmed down now quite a bit, he relaxes while he eats, he even chews LOL ... and it's common he doesn't finish the 2 cups in one sitting. So I'm thinking maybe cut back now? 1-1/2 cups 3/x's day?
