What can I expect?

Rocco is now just days shy of turning 6 months. I weighed him yesterday and he was 48 pounds. He is still short and very thin. Not skinny. The top of his head reaches my hips.
Is he at an appropriate size?
How much bigger can I expect him to get?

Do you know how big the parents were?

Well, according to my husband (who bought Rocco for me), his father was huge (at least 100 pounds), all black GSD. He never saw his mom; but his registration papers list her as a GSD Sable (nothing about her size).

I would guess 80-90
Hard to say without knowing more about the genetics. Also, people tend to overestimate GSD weight sometimes because of large bone or frame. People estimate that Whiskey weighs 90lbs and he is only 78lbs at a year old.

People ALWAYS over estimate Whiskey's father Ivan....
Ivan is a larger dog and has good bone stregth.......people always think he weighs over a 100lbs+....when realistically, he weighs around 88-89lbs....and a couple pounds less, in "show weight".

Didn't we discover that we could more or less predict adult weight +/- a few pounds from 4 month old weight? Double the weight at 4 months or something?

I think Rocco was from 32-40 pounds at 4 months.

If that worked, Gladiator would be 80lbs full grown...

He is 10 months old now, and 65lbs, so I don't expect him to get THAT big - would he?

He is larger than his dam now (height and weight) and only 5lbs lighter than his sire - he is also really lean.

I have never heard of this equation - but I am definitely going to pay attention to this and see if it comes true.

As far as I can remember, Ironhide was about 30 lbs at 4 months, and is now 60-62lbs, so it would fit this equation just about perfectly...
