Major....major weight gain

Hi all. Well, last week, at 10 weeks old, Major weighed 19 lbs, almost 20. I weighed him last night at training class and he is now 27 lbs, almost 28. Is this too much of a weight gain too fast? Also, last week his ears were standing, now they are down again. He seems healthy, and is very active.

Previously we had been feeding him Nature's Variety Prairie all life stages food, now we are feeding him Diamond Large breed puppy formula. When he was on the Prairie, he will skinny it seemed. He is no longer skinny, but also doesn't seem to be fat.

I just want him to develop and grow as he should. Is his weight gain for the week too much?

As a comparison my pup was 13.2 lbs at 8 weeks, 16.3 lbs at 9 weeks and 20.5 lbs at 10.5 weeks. I dont think the gain you mention sounds too bad, you wouldn't want it any higher though. You mention he's bulked up a little, can you still feel his ribs easily?

yeah, I can. It just seems like he has lost some of that puppyishness. He not only has gained weight, he has gained a lot of height and his face looks not so puppyish any more.

I'm finding the exact same thing, he's starting to look less puppyish every day. He's so long and tall now. I managed to weigh him today and he weighed 24.6 lbs, he's 11.5 weeks old

Well when Matty went to the vet at 12 weeks, she weighed 24 lbs...I took her at 16 weeks and she weighed 35 lbs...seemed like a lot to me, but the vet said she looked great and her weight gain was normal...and that she would do that for a couple of more months and really slow down after that.,,,

The mutant growth pattern normally slows down around six months or so....

That IS a pretty Major weight gain. It's pretty normal at that age to put on 10-12 pounds a month, I've never heard of that much in one week. But if his condition is good - not chunky or skinny, then I wouldn't worry about it.
