being alpha and socializing

hi just want to ask,
do you need to establish being an alpha first before you socialize? or can you do both at the same time?
on the average how long will it take for a dog to know that you are the alpa?
how will you know if the dog treats you as the alpha?
I read in one of the articles in the net that one of the ways to become an alpha
to your dog is that you should be the universe of your dog all the good things should come from you, you can, for the first few days you should feed your dog using your hands. I also read an article regarding socializing, your dog should at least meet 100 persons before they turn 3months. It was advised that when a person will greet the dog he/she should give a treat.

i could have misunderstood the articles, thats why it got me confused I would like to ask for your thoughts on this. thank you very much
