No weight gain

I might be worrying unnecessarily but....

Kerchak weighed 80lbs when we had him weighed at the vet at 8 months.
We took him in yesterday, because I needed more flea and heartworm treatments and they weighed him again.
It was the same scales as before and yet he stilled weighed 80lbs.
He hasn't put on any weight for 2 months!!
He's eating really, really well and has plenty of exercise. He is fairly tall and long bodied and lean.
Should I up his food intake. He's already having a lot more than on the bag.
Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Re: No weight gain

At 8 months old the rapid weight gain of puppyhood should be nearing the end, and 80 pounds is well within the range for an adult male. As long as he's lean but not skinny I wouldn't worry about it. As he matures and fills out in the next year or two he may gain a few more pounds, but I see no reason to increase his food based solely on the numbers on a scale. His condition is a much better indicator that he's consuming the appropriate number of calories per day.

Re: No weight gain

Unless he just looks absolutely emaciated ( I can't imagine that he does) his weight and its stabilization sound normal. My 7 month old weighs 57 lbs and I am working to get him up to 60. People remark about how big he is. I can't imagine him at 80lbs in just another month. It is really suggested to grow these guys slow in the first year. This does not keep them from reaching full size and spares joints in development.

Re: No weight gain

Ty was 67 lbs at 8 months, 9 months ....71.6, 12 months...73.4, now at 20 months 74.8. I also worry about weight sometimes as he is 26" tall but he eats well, is healthy and active and poops are good soooooo, unlike me he is not over weight. I figure he will hit 75-80 in a year or so as he is very thin and I will just wait for it to happen

Re: No weight gain

Okay, thanks...You've set my mind a bit easier.
It was just that he had grown and gained weight rapidly and then it had slowed to nothing, but I do know that rapid gain isn't good for them. I'd rather he was on the lean side for that reason.
He looks healthy to me and the vet didnt say anything so I guess he is just a slim build

Re: No weight gain

At 9 mo Anna was 64lbs, when we took her in for her yearly at 15 mo she was still 64lbs. To me she LOOKS bigger but she's the same weight, which the vet described as good for her and she'd much rather her be thin, tall and sleek than portly. She says she may end up being 70lbs when she's fully developed, but 64lbs on my lap is good enough for me!

Re: No weight gain

At 7 months Stark was 70lbs, I just had him weighed last week and he was 77.6lbs and he will be 9 months old on the 10th of January.

So in 2 months he only gained 7.6lbs. He is nearing the end of his growth spurts (atleast the rapid puppy ones) so I don't figure on him gaining much more. He will start filling out now (or atleast I hope because he is so gangly looking.. lol) but that's about it.

I wouldn't worry.
