bad meeting experiences

I was wondering how other people deal with bad experiences with socialization, lucy and i have prob met 50 + dogs and had 2 bad experiences

todays was the worst when the other dog just lunged at her...I quickly brought her back over to the dog just so she didnt associate all dogs with lunging/biting

i know she is over it ,but us humans seem to have a good memory. What do some of you all do to get over it?

Re: bad meeting experiences

Ignore it. Don't make it a big deal. I don't let dogs approach mine anyway, but if one did I would get between to block the view(my older dogs can be reactive) and just leave the area. I do not go to dog parks. If a dog continues on forward, I say SIT to mine, hoping the other dog will do the same. My dogs have had scraps while we were walking, stupid off leash dogs think they can take on two, foolish thinking on their part. I will protect my dogs, whatever it takes...
IF I do want mine to meet another, I usually will do it where both are off leash. A dog off leash meeting one on, may cause a tussle for that reason alone.
My puppy is not reactive at all so far, he just basically ignores other dogs, but will play no problem. I hope it lasts!

Re: bad meeting experiences

I have also had problems socializing my 11 month old.

We too have met several dogs with no problems.

The two negative encounters we had that were lunging-biting incidents, happened because both dogs were on leash.

Owner of 'Myra', a beautiful GSD/2 cats - 'Spanky' (Orange Tabby) & 'Little Cat' (Hemmingway).
Mommy to 2 kids and a husband.
