Too small?

Hi everyone, I recently got a 10 week old GSD pup. I took her home April 3rd, she weighed 11 lbs. Vet said she was so small for 10 weeks. 2 weeks later on April 20th she weighed 17 lbs. 3 weeks later on May 10th she weight 25.5, she now weighs about 27-28ish pounds at 16 weeks....is this to small for a female pup? I think she is gaining at a good rate, but still undersized....I feed her Orijen kibble 3 cups daily, mixed in with natures variety raw chicken medallions an some days raw chickens as treats....She is also about 17.5 at the shoulder high...Thanks for any help..

Re: Too small?

A lot of vets think that a German Shepherd should weigh 100 lbs at maturity. It sounds to me like the pup is growing a little too fast... my 2.5 year old female GSD weighs 62 lbs.

At 8 weeks she weighed 9 lbs. or so.

<Insert witty sig>

Re: Too small?

She sounds like my pup.She was 7lbs when I got her at 8 weeks.She gained weight steady till about 6 months then her weight has been at 65 lbs since then.Looking at her weight I feel she should weigh more but looking at her she is built like a healthy dog.As long as she has definition but very little ribs and no backbone showing she is at a good weight.Athena just turned 1 on May 4th.

Re: Too small?

I think she's just perfect. Smaller is easier on the joints and also easier to carry when they get older and need some help (speaking as someone who has had to carry a 90 lb. and an 80 lb gsd).

She's a beautiful pup, btw!
