Problem with socializing

I have an unusual situation with my puppy. Jasper came down with parvo two weeks after I got him, he was on death's door and at the animal hospital for nearly two weeks. He is now recovered and almost back to the weight that he should be, but because of the parvo I have to keep him away from other dogs for a lot longer than normal because its going to take longer for him to complete his shots. He IS able to play with my sisters mix puppy because she has finished her round of shots and we know that she protected from the parvo and won't pass anything to him.

Re: Problem with socializing

He is great with my niece and nephew and loves my neighbors kids. His nipping has decreased a ton after playing with Bailey (my sisters puppy) so that he hardly nips me during play. I make him sit for his food and to go outside. Is there anythying else that I can do until he is able to go out with me?

Re: Problem with socializing

Since he HAD Parvo and recovered he will NOT need any more parvo shots. He has natural immunity.

I would worry more about how long HE will be shedding the virus than him catching it again.

Re: Problem with socializing

My vet said up to a month. And its been about a month but I will be keeping him in my yard for longer than that-parvo is not something that I would wish on any dog, so I'm trying to keep the dogs in my neighborhood as safe as possible.

I have also been bleaching the yard when ever he uses the restroom so that it will keep the virus from staying in the ground
