Anything to worry about?

Koch seems to be a bit timid of larger dogs, she is 15 weeks now, about 36ish pounds.

Like, if we are on the field next door and another (large) dog (leashed with owner) comes up, she will run towards it, but once she gets close she will back off and if the larger dog runs at her and happens to make contact (has happened once or twice) she will yelp.

She also seems a bit wary of playing with larger dogs, I don't know if it just a size thing or what? She plays great with this older black lab, but still has a bit of hesitancy (like she will taunt and retreat some when the other larger dog comes to play back).

Is this something I need to worry about now or will she grow out of it?

She is great around dogs her own size, so it isn't a "all dogs" problem, just a larger dog

Re: Anything to worry about?

The only "bad" thing that has happened to her (was after the 'fear period' ended) was she tried to grab a ball from a larger dog and it snapped at her, but it wasn't an attack or anything just a possessive dog. She was great in puppy classes and everything with dogs her own size and smaller.

i knew we should of left her in that puppy class where she ruled. but instead of staying there you make them ask you politely not to come back. now look at the mess we're in. i'm going to come up with a plan. i'll get back to you.

Re: Anything to worry about?

She's a puppy and still learning. And, she's not stupid. She knows a bigger dog could harm her, so in that sense she's smart. I wouldn't worry about it right now. Just keep up the good work in exposing her to all kinds of other dogs.

Re: Anything to worry about?

Well, we drug her out this weekend to a few national parks around the area, she got to meet quite a few people and some big dogs - she was a lot better around the big dogs. Maybe she was going through a fear period last week?

We also tried a dog park, but I realized quickly why everyone advises against them. Left promptly!
