Proper socialization question

I have 2 older GSDs, one is all over any visitor to the house, licking, pining for attention; the other is the exact opposite, she'll hide behind me whenever a stranger is near. She won't even eat if I have a friend in the house.

I'm picking up my 10wk old puppy on Saturday. How do I socialize him so that he has the aloofness trait of GSDs?

Re: Proper socialization question

I'm pretty sure that the aloofness trait in the GSD is suppose to be natural.

Re: Proper socialization question

I think a lot of the "aloofness" has to do with the natural temperament of the dog.
It is VERY important to socialize your puppy as much as possible to avoid getting a fearful, nervous dog. A German Shepherd should not be fearful of people or be scared or run away when strangers are near. A lack of socialization will not help your dog to be aloof, it will be more likely to cause them to develop fears or aggression. A socialized dog will be confident and alert rather than being nervous and shy. A dog who is not socialized enough is less likely to be able to tell a true threat from a normal situation and they are more likely to overreact poorly in an everyday non-threatening situation.

Here is some information on how to properly socialize a puppy:
