Thumbs down Username

Why aren't we allowed to change our usernames? I really don't like the one I have now, this is such a great website and I think we should be able to change our usernames, lets say we get a new puppy and we want to add them to our username? I know that is was signatures are for.. but its just a suggestion, well I wish I could change it. ):

It would be too hard to keep track of everyone if they changed their user-name anytime they wanted too. I know that the big majority of people would never think of doing this, but it is also an issue for people who come on the board only to cause trouble and argue, then change their user name and pretend to be someone else to avoid being banned.

This is a very busy board, with over 100 posts per day most days. A big job to moderate, and would be even more of a challenge if old members just turned up with new names or kept changing them to reflect the changes in their dog-situation.

Speaking from moderator experience elsewhere, can't you just log users by IP or Machine ID? That way if they change their alias and are banned, it'll still ban them.

Yeah couldn't you just do that? Can't one of us just message a mod and see if they can change their user for them? Like asking for permission and explaining why they want to change it?

Obviously? But they are mods for a reason and they have the power to do so? Not everyone on this forum has the intentions to start stuff and cause arguments, and I'm certainly NOT one of them. I just think it'd be nice if someone messaged them explaining why they want to change it, and they would be nice enough to do so.
Just a thought.

Yes, it would be nice, but if one person did it, then tons of people would want to and the mods would not spend much time moderating the breeding threads and the ones where the schutzhund people battle the agility people.

most forums are the same way. i've been on prolly 100 different ones that all worked the same way. the problem isn't people comming back after banned, it's easily keeping track of trouple makers so they can be banned after a number of problems. you can keep track of users by IP but with dynamic IPs that change, mulitple computers/devices sharing a network with different IPs and proxy servers, it's easier to keep track of the trouble makers by username. if all members could keep switching username whenever they wanted it would be chaos. i don't understand what people don't understand.

Yeah but when your banned you can easily make another account and nobody would know. But you can keep track of that with the IP address, then ban them again.. like Waffle said.

nobody said anything about coming back after being banned. where did you get that from? castlemaid mentioned troublemakers changing their username after a warning to cause problems again to AVOID getting banned.
