Can I get some help?

I have been pouring over all the threads I can find on the forums before I posted this.

I am located in Maryland and I have been in love with German Shepherds all my life, it started with my grandfather who lived near the Belgian-Netherlands-Germany border. He raced pigeons and he would always have a shepherd to guard and herd them. I knew at some point when the time was right, That I would have my own shepherd one day. Well the time is now.

I need help selecting a breeder ( I have looked up 100+ already ) willing to wait and drive up to 6-8 hours.

My priorities :

1. Temperament - looking for a family companion and medium-ish drive type of dog, We want a friendly confident dog that won't chase our cats around for fun. Not a guard dog or protector.

2. Health - is very important obviously but this is where I am having a hard time understanding all the information ( i will keep researching )

3. Color - I tend to like the sables or the red and tans and longhairs. this is secondary to getting the temperament that I want. But I realize different breeders?

What lines should I be looking for?

Which one of these breeders would you recommend.

Haus Juris
Haus Morrison
Warlkonhaus
EuroDeja (they have a female ready to go $3500)
Hollow Hills
Von Wyndmoor

I agree with Lisa - Christine Kemper of Blackthorn GSDs in Barboursville, VA would be my recommendation.
She has a few litters coming up this fall that might fit you. She also has an 8 month old available now as well who is socialized with cats, dogs, and people. Welcome to Blackthorn Working German Shepherds
Christine is very active on Facebook and checks her email often. Very knowledgeable of her lines and what they produce.

Red and black are typically show line.

Hollow Hills - I like her foundation lines, not sure about her knew lines she's bringing in. You'll have to see what she's breeding.

Wyndmoor doesn't breed much. But you can contact them. Jim and Barb are great people.

Sitz von der Hose in Marion NY near Rochester has very nice dogs.

I have a Warkonhaus and know many. Love them. They are higher drive, typically higher possession. No long hair. I know she has two breedings being planned. My girl still chases the cat at 1 year old. He's very chewable.

Thank you for your input,

I am looking into Blackthorn and maybe even the 8 month old puppy if it is a good fit. I checked the website and it hasn't updated since 2017 and they don't have an official facebook page just a facebook group.

This comment made me LOL :

@Jax08 do you do any sport with your dogs?

I apologize but I don't know the name of that kennel/breeder.

I tagged her in that post. GatorDog is her username here. She's probably busy taking care of puppies I can't think of her kennel name. Hopefully she sees this post.
