This is why I like you all

I was with some friends, catching up, and they were asking what we were all doing this week. They were sharing a lot of mundane things and I said, Looking at different breeders for different lines and breeds of puppies for a possible therapy dog. They were shocked and said but don’t you already have two dogs? Yes, two high drive German Shepherds (different kinds of drive but both are on the high end). I explained I want a therapy dog and neither of my dogs is suited for it. They had all kinds of advice, Like why do you need a dog to visit a nursing home? Just go and visit! They don’t need to see a dog, they want visitors! And I didn’t even tell them I might get two puppies. That would put me over the edge of being out of my mind, in their minds.

I knew if I came here and shared none of you would think I’m crazy for considering a third dog. If you did think it was a bad idea right now, at least you would have a good reason other than Just don’t do it.

After two weeks of having two puppies you probably need a service dog! Kidding aside, I assume these pups are GSDs? Oddly I know several people who took in two sight hound litter mates and it seemed to go well, even the same genders. I guess we don't know everything.

Either a WGSL, a field Lab or one of each. The only reason to get two is that they will keep each other from pestering my 4 year old who is pretty mellow and not super high energy. My older dog is actually more into puppies. But...Iím leaning toward just one for a lot of other reasons.

When I bought my Siberian husky pup, we kinda thought maybe we should get 2, as we were going to sled, so the breeder sent us home with my girl Lacey and a little male to try out, to accompany my tripod 3 legged Siberian Nick and old Leica.

It was just a REALLY bad idea, we never slept, they never stopped, and it was quickly apparent that training 2 puppies at once was going to be WAY too much for me. The best thing we did, was send the little male back after less than a week. 1 puppy at a time for me, from then onward.

I will probably get one at a time for that reason. But itís tempting to have dogs that wear each other out. Unless they only wear me out.
