Well, I am learning my Canadian geography from this thread!
Interesting... Kirkland lake had a gold mine? Those must have been interesting times.

@Jenny720:
ha ha, you are right about it being like the setup plot for a romance novel...:-) but I am sure sabismom does not agree.

Sabis mom does not agree! This is a short spell in a hot place. Lol.

Kirkland Lake has a really fascinating history and is involved in an old unsolved murder case. It was once a booming little town and is now mismanaged and very rundown.

Couple of weird facts though, from Kirkland Lake. Get ready for a chuckle.

New business called Pet Pantry, slogan on their sign? Where your pets are!

Old folks home and funeral home share a parking lot.

Little breakfast/lunch diner is actually attached to the vet clinic. Sign beside diner entrance says "vet clinic entrance on the side".

I definitely see the basis for a great novel here! Weave all these details into it and you'll have a story quirkier than Nothern Exposure!

Glad you got settled for the winter though...the time will pass quickly, barely enough time to plan your attack in the spring!

Classic small-town Ontario, gotta love it!

Please don't litter. Neuter your pets!

I have a husband who doesn't like me. We long ago decided not to live together. The trade off was that if I got him to his family in Ontario he would help me out. So against my better judgement I get to share space with him for a couple of months.
It's not fun but hey, it's a spot until April.
Wow. You're a FAR more adventurous (or forgiving) soul than I am. Let's hope that "cabin fever" doesn't take on a particular resonance this winter...

What I am is a survivor. I will adapt to my surroundings as I must. One of the things that made me very valuable at work was my insanely over developed ability for contingency planning. Lots of people are good at it but my brain switches gears in split seconds and analyzes all possibilities. However much it may displease me this was the best and safest option for the winter. Not just for me but for Shadow.

Cabin Fever? Wonderful horror movie, only in my dreams.
