Online Dating Update

I have an update from the thread asking about online dating sites. I'm wondering if anyone else also has any updates?

I believe Jackie had started that thread. Anyway, I can't use eHarmony because I'm not officially divorced yet. Someone in that thread recommended plentyoffish.com so I thought I would check it out.

I really like the site.. the caliber of people seems to be better than another site I was on. After doing some sifting through some guys, having some nice chats with several guys, I agreed to meet one of them. Well, last night we went on our second date and do plan on a 3rd. He is really just a NICE guy. I don't get any negative or bad vibes about him. He and I have just totally connected, which I think really surprises both of us. The biggest difference so far is that I'm a total extrovert and he's an introvert. He's also funny and we laugh a LOT, and very ambitious which totally turns me on as well as his slight affinity for some reckless abandon (which on the first meeting I didn't peg him for at all)

So there's my update... so far so good!! Does anyone else have an update to share?

Yeah Yeah Yeah...but the important question (which you should have gotten out of the way before the first date) is...How does he feel about large dogs?

Well he likes dogs but doesn't have any of his own. He's not a fanatic about dogs, but he likes them and that's fine as far as I'm concerned.

Hey that could be very promising! That's how my BF was when I met him. He loves dogs but had none of his own and he grew up with a pug. He also had a cat when I met him but when I moved in he gave her back to his ex since he didn't want her in the first place and it was a surprise gift...

and boy did his world do a 180 when we got together. I liked that he didn't have any dogs because I already have 2 and I like fostering And now BF is totally involved with the dogs, loves to go to the dog park and attend rescue and dog events with me! He also tells all his friends and strangers that Chief is the best dog he's ever had and he will always have a GSD I'll hope for the best with you and new guy!!

Re: Online Dating Update

Well, everyone on dating websites, just don't forget the example of one of the male posters in this forum from Alaska who had a lot of people fooled. Do a home check and ask for vet references. And if he can't pass the test - DNA.

Re: Online Dating Update

When I used PlentyofFish, I seemed to find the three biggest weirdos in Georgia on there - lol.

1) Seemingly "normal" except when I met him in "real life," the photos he had posted were 15 years old...he lived in his mom's basement (and I don't mean a fully finished basement. I mean...plywood leaning against cinderblock walls, etc.)

2) Guy said he was 5'10", nice, outgoing, liked the outdoors...met him and didn't recognize him. He was 5'1", liked computer games and online debating, and thought it was "funny" when he kicked his ex gf's senior cat in the swimming pool to see if it could swim.

3) Guy's ex wife left him to live with her girlfriend - life partner. Seemed like a "normal" guy - outdoorsy, big dogs, outgoing, but every woman after that he said he couldn't trust (revealed before we met.)

LOL

Sounds good for you though, Tula.

Re: Online Dating Update

I wonder how much of it has to do with what you put on your own profile? Not sure... my profile on the site is rather demanding although a bit playful. LOL I also tweaked my profile a bit depending on the kind of guys that were contacting me.

Another thing is that I don't respond to messages from guys just saying 'you're hot', 'you're pretty', 'want to chat?'. I've only been responding to messages from guys that actually have something to say in their messages and show they actually READ my profile and didn't just look at the pretty pictures! LOL This guy and I sent about 20 messages back and forth before I agreed to meet him. I then insisted we speak on the phone before meeting... I think you can tell a lot about someone by their voice.

I've heard horror stories, but I've also heard great stories, too. I guess it just depends... what it depends on I haven't the slightest clue! LOL

Re: Online Dating Update

I don't think you can learn about who a person really is over the internet based on short e-mails or phone calls within a 6 month period. There are too many who project what they want you to see or hear until they feel comfortable with sharing the truth about themselves. After communicating for a year or so, you should know if you want to continue the relationship. I know it's a long time to do that, but there are just too many weirdos out there.

Please bear with my stupid questions. This old dog is learning new tricks. lol.
