neuter recovery?

Mr. Cyrus is scheduled to be neutered in a couple of weeks, and I'm worried about the recovery period. I just don't see how I'm going to be able to keep him quiet for 10 days!

Does anyone have any tips on making the recovery as quick and easy as possible for him? Do people ever give dogs a mild sedative to keep them quiet? He's just a mess if he doesn't get at least 30 mins of flat out sprinting evey day. I worry for the cats! If he's stuck in the house he's going to drive them crazy!

He's the first dog I've ever had to have neutered--all others have been rescues that came to me spayed or neutered so I have no idea what to expect.

Re: neuter recovery?

Bogart was neutured a couple weeks ago. We were given a few pain killers for the first 3 days, this seemed to make him tired. The vet also sent him home with an elizabethean collar as he was trying to lick at the incission. The poor guy looked pitiful and kept bumping into walls with it, not funny but there were a few times we couldn't help but laugh I thought we'd have a harder time keeping him quiet for ten days then we did, but it wasn't too bad, we just didn't encourage any rough play, we hid all his tennis balls and certain toys that get him all wound up , and before we knew it , it was back to business as usual!
