Fleas, Ticks, and mosquitoes, Oh My

Proud companion to a 7 year and 11 week old GSD's.
We live in South texas with fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes running rampant.
I'm looking for different ideas to keep them away from my babies.

What do you use as a repellant ?

Thanks

Frontline Plus...never had an issue with fleas or ticks. We treat our yard with nematodes.
Malibu likes this.

For fleas and ticks, Nexgard works for us here in East Tennessee. I didn't seem to have much luck with Advantage or Frontline.

I use Advantix and seresto collars. My vet does not recommend Frontline because it does not repel, it kills after they bite. He does seem to now be recommending Nexguard. Said it was the only product that states it is FDA approved to prevent Lymes disease.

In South Texas, you also need a heartworm preventative year round!

Advantage Multi covers fleas and heartworms (but not ticks). Same with Trifexis. NexGard covers fleas and ticks...but not heartworms. So you're going to need some combination of products.

It's common for people to go with a pill like HeartGuard (or its generic equivalents -- TriHeart Plus, Iverhart, etc.) plus a flea/tick preventative like NexGard or Bravecto.

For mosquitoes, I would spray the yard weekly with Wondercide. We use it in Louisiana, and it helps a lot. It also will kill fleas and ticks out in the yard.
