grooming questions.

I know I see alot of post about grooming and bathing. I see alot of people say they rarely to never shower there dogs. My vet also recommends not showering to often, is this due to the coat, or another reason. I was also wondering, because I am still trying to get potty training down. I shower her maybe every other week. I know its alot, but seeing as she is an inside dog who sleeps in a crate, and spends most time in the crate other than training or potty breaks. If I am not quick enough to take her out she will pee in her crate, and if i don't catch it to fast she will lay in it. We typically shower her if this is the case. Is that wrong? or will a rinse suffice. Also we live on an island, so we do not have natural lakes or creeks, so we take her to the beach and shower her after. is that also something I should just rinse her off after.

I am also curious about blowing coat. Can someone give me insight to this. I have not experienced it is it because she is still young. Is there any seasons where it occurs, or periodically?

Thanks in advance for all the help and assistance.

If she icky and laying in her urine you need to use a puppy shampoo and conditioner to get that smell out. I don't wash my dogs much as it is drying but will when needed usually it will be outside. When we go to beach we just hose the dogs off with fresh water. If there coat is ever feeling like a waxy buildup then they would get a bath. Blowing their coat they go through a massive shedding- hair galore everywhere it seems never ending. If it's not the kids it's the dogs I have to clean up after lol! I have to say their coats are super clean. I used to bathe my dogs more often in the past. I find now the less I bathe and if they are on a good food my dogs don't get a doggy odor accept for in the rain or play out in the snow and that is only when they are wet.

Blowing coats or not, I brush my dogs nearly every night. If they are shedding quite a bit I use a coat "rake" but oddly enough I find a rubber comb works best. it is the kind used for our heads. I give treats now and then throughout the process of combing and brushing because as a pup, my boy thought that the brush was a toy and was always nipping. My female accepts the grooming quite nicely.

This is also a good time to check for sore, bumps and bugs.
