Not interested in raw beef bones???

We wanted to start giving Marley raw beef knuckles for teeth cleaning reasons. Since we live in an apartment which is all carpet except for the (very small) kitchen and the bathroom, I decided to take him out to the enclosed softball field around the block and let him go nuts with it in the grass. I brought a chuck it and his ball to exercise him as well. Unfortunately, all he wanted to do was play ball! Whatttt the??? I was soooo shocked that he wasn't going crazy for the bone.

The next day, I took him back and I brought the ball but no chuck-it, and I kind of hid the ball in my purse. he couldn't get into the bone. He picked it up, and licked it a few times then sniffed out the ball and wanted to play.

Next time I try im going to do it mid-day so he has built up a little appetite and not bring anything else but the bone. I'm just really surprised he didn't take to it right away. He eats raw food, but it's the Natures Variety frozen patties so he isn't really chewing and gnawing anything.

Any tips for me?

Jackie

Smear some peanut butter or the like on it to make it smell good

You know, I was thinking about that but hadn't tried it yet. Good suggestion.

Raw bones (or any plain raw meat) has very little smell to entice so adding something on top will hopefully encourage him to realize that it's a great treat

That makes sense. This will also be his first one, so he doesn't even realize what he has in store yet!

All of mine like knuckle bones, 5 of them like duck necks and none of them like anything else. They look at me like I'm crazy when I give them chicken legs. I've put stuff on it and they eat around it.
