Collars creating mats?

I did a search on this and found that some find rolled leather collars best for not matting up hair around the neck.

Regen has a flat collar right now and it is definitely causing the hair around there to nap/mat up-- what is the best type of collar to prevent this? She wears her collar for walks and during the day, we take it off at night when she is in the house for the night.

Also, how should I size the collar if rolled leather is best?

Thanks for your advice!
