Vaccinations

So I just got home from the vet in getting Dakota his 12 wk shots. The vet says "see you in 3 weeks" I said for what, she said his next set of shots. ????? What????? Since when do we do 4 sets of puppy vaccinations????

I have found that wherever I go, the stupidest drivers in the world have followed me there!

Re: Vaccinations

We do 4 sets here. The 4 is a booster with the rabies shot.

Re: Vaccinations

Depends on the age you start them, and how long you wait between shots. Generally they get their last one at approx 16 weeks. So if they start young and/or you do them more frequently than 4 weeks between shots, then end up getting more than 3 total.

Siren got her first one at 8 weeks, I had her get "boosters" at 12 and 16 weeks so she only got a total of 3.

I also will NOT allow the vet to give the last puppy shot and Rabies at the same time. She got her rabies at 7 months.

Re: Vaccinations

Is there a reason why you dont give booster and rabies together? My vet always does this.

Re: Vaccinations

Ok, so maybe a little previous confusion on my part. I guess I thought it was 3 total I guess I never took the 4 wk shot into consideration...... My mistake......Feeling a little stupid right now.....

Re: Vaccinations

IMO, that is too much for their system at once. Besides the fact that if they would happen to have a bad reaction, you would have no way of knowing which they were reacting to.

When I get the last "puppy shot" I just tell the vet that I do NOT want the rabies too, and that I will bring the pup back at a later date. My vet has never questioned me. He just says "OK".
