Never get a dog

So Agis only does the jump into the air and bark excitedly with dog walkers. He’s a little psycho about his walkers. They all flutter about it.

Our dog walker now is great and also trains dogs - Xerxes is doing great or at least less bolshie - she’s from Mexico and did something with forensics and dogs there (not totally clear to me though I’ve never super asked)

Anyways I’m home yesterday when she came and go to help get the dogs ready to go out/calm Agis and I bend over him…

…never get a dog. I think I mentioned Agis jumps straight into the air?

now he’s headbutted me when playing several times in the nose hard enough it felt like a miracle I didn’t get a nosebleed/break. He took out Toby’s MCL when he was young with excited zoomies on a hike (thankfully near the start)

Anyways, yesterday he headbutts me.

In the mouth.

I immediately taste blood and have a lot of tooth pain. I run over to the mirror cut lip bloody gums but my teeth aren’t loose. They do feel funny though.

Our walker is horrified (she said to me last night on WhatsApp she would work on his behaviour when she arrives). She also tells me dental work is cheaper in Mexico and can hook me up if necessary ahaha.

Anyways she takes them out and I reel off to the bathroom to examine things. Immediate splitting headache.

I’ve already had 7-9 head injuries/concussions (who can remember them all haha) and think “poop” because I get them easier now.

my mom freaks (long story) and arrives to take me to the doctor. $50 cab ride (she refuses to use Uber sigh) so I can hardly say no though I feel unnecessary. By the time she arrives I am also nauseous and feel like I’m floating and sinking at once.

So an obvious head injury/mild concussion. I pass the neurological exam the doctor did and no ear bleeding so the doc agrees and home I go. My poor mother.

Anyways by bed yesterday I feel a lot better but have more bleeding so I sleep the sleep of the dead.

this morning I wake up nauseous and with a headache but work up the nerve to brush my teeth - NO bleeding yay. Somewhat weird sensation wise but that is what it is.

Oh Agis!

You just gave me a flashback memory of my Quinn as a pup. He was a very people focused & when I had him in a sit & leaned down just to clip on his leash he would pop straight up to lick my face, with mouth open those little needle puppy teeth hit me in the chin & cheek a couple times before I started holding his collar first before clipping on his leash. It was like he had springs in his rear legs. We worked that early on to stop it, because the thought of an 80lb adult doing the same thing probably would have broken teeth or something! Thankfully he was a very fast leaner & quickly learned this is not what I wanted him doing. :)

Well let’s just say I will be more cautious! The walker is going to work on him being calm before he gets to go out by a logical basic program.

he only does this with walkers. Me he sits nicely (I do not allow jumping). Toby he jumps on not straight up but Toby encourages bad behaviour.

Hes smart enough he’s learned how he can behave with a variety of people. I get annoyed when he misbehaves and being in an apartment want him to shut up. So I tell Toby to get him out etc. he’s going to have to learn with EVERYONE!!!!

They so do learn & if everyone is not consistent the way you are well you get what you get. He's probably testing the walker to see if this is one of those people he can get away with stuff.

My situation is so much easier, it's just me the dog has to deal with & I'm very consistent & have never allowed any of them to get away with bad behavior. I'm sure that could change pretty quick if they spent time with someone that was not so consistent. :)

Honestly if I didn’t think it was unfair for him to go 8-9hours without a walk/potty (Also Xerxes is older and crated) while we were at work I wouldn’t have a walker…yesterday I happened to be working from home.

I’m glad our walker now is not going to tolerate it any longer!!!!

Clearly I lack that instinct! I have been very aware since but he’s also calm with me sooooo.

Yeah those darned hard skulls!

Since I cut my lip I checked HIM to see if I’d cut him - not that I could find. Curses! Ha! (I kid I was glad)

Good news!

I do NOT have a concussion I am certain. Feel totally fine now. I noticed if I chewed accidentally on the hit side of the mouth I had increased headaches and my eyes hurt…I realised my teeth, while not loose, had angry nerves and all that referred/nerve pain was causing this.

anyways, I can now eat/chew normally (I’m not chewing on ice or anything) and have almost 100% normal sensation in my teeth.

wow. I feel both blessed and shook up that a blow to the mouth can cause that!

Me too. I had blinding headaches my mind is blown. I take a med that blocks nerve pain off label for anxiety too so wow

That’s true! I mean I’m still middle aged but I notice the changes for sure.

I’m still in my 40s! 46! But as a runner with injuries I have noticed shifts in recovery time for decades now. Aging is a real thing!

I bet even doing it often enough to another human causes brain damage! To think I worry about CTE for myself (I do think my concussions/head injuries are the source of my migraines, I have vestibular balance issues from them…who knows if I’d be as crazy as I am if I’d never had a concussion…) - just imagine all these fighters.
