Default Patton video - puppy engagement and foundation work.

Just a Patton video from last week that I finally put together. He's so much fun to work with!

Slept all night out of his crate last night without an accident or chewing anything up. I believe he was with me in bed for most of the night, but when I awoke he was on the floor snoozing. Dare I say he's growing up?

Good job...I like the door exercise...my current gal has that one down great now...I started her on that from day one and I think it really has it's benefits...I'm out the door first and she holds until given the okay. Too many horror stories of dogs bolting out of houses and cars plus it sets a good tempo for what takes place outside the house or car.

Question for you....how many hours a day do you dedicate to training your pup. I know we are training them all day long ...whether we know it or not..but just curious as to the time you spend on more formal training.

Thanks,

SuperG

Thanks!

I spend anywhere from 0 minutes to 2 hours on formal training per day- It just depends. Some busy days go by and the only rewards I give Patton are for going into the crate. Other days we are out at training classes and stores or making trips all day so every time we get out of the car it's a training opportunity like these videos at the park where I work. If I'm there for a 5 hour shift, at least an hour of that is going to be formal training, if not more. When we're home and I don't have a lot going on I break up 2 or 3 10-15 minutes sessions just to keep everything fresh or start a little bit new.

Too cute, I'll bet he's going to be a nice moving dog, love the way he extends while heeling, he's going to have a nice ground covering trot.

Thank you both!

My timing could stand some help, but I really love how his form is looking.

Very well done! Congrats!!! What a happy pup, so eager to work for you!

This is an excellent example of projecting the right energy, engagement, luring for imprinting basic position and focus, and waiting for the desired behaviour before rewarding, as in your open-the-door example.

Good example of how puppies this age need a lot of constant reward and activity to stay engaged, and how one starts with tiny baby-steps and works up from there. Down stay with you taking one step to the side and back, eye-contact focus with the lure behind your back for a couple of secs - Patton is doing great!
