Default Friends option

What is the point of this? What does it do?

If you like someone and want to be their friend you can request them. It is also easier to send mail to them because they are on your friends list and you wont have to search for them on the website.

I was going to say basically the same thing.

That's an excellent question and I've been wondering the same thing. It's very middle school, isn't it?

I think it just makes it easier to find people if you want to send them a PM. I can see it being handy if there are board members nearby that you get together with occasionally or if you want to set up a meet. Much easier than trying to remember everyone's username and having to search for them.

It can be handy - sometimes. As others have said - PMs are faster especially if you don't want to hunt down a post so you can click on their name and send a PM. I'm a horrible speller so it's faster for me.

Also, if you don't want to share some pictures with everybody you can make a private album that only your contacts can see. You can also make your profile private so only your contacts can see most of the stuff. (Some people want some things kept private but they still want to share with friends.)

To each his/her own really. It's there if you'd like to use it but it's not a requirement.
