What is the permalink option next to the post number, and what is the trackback(s) below a reply window?

It allows you to make a url (link) to a SPECIFIC post.

Click the Permalink at the top of the post you want to get the direct link to then just copy the url at the top of your browser (see attached screenshot).

Usually, permalinks are for people who subscribe to RSS feeds. It's not a feature you really have to worry about. It's there though.
